President Trump has proposed replacing the subsidies provided under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) with direct payments to “the people”.
In a post on Truth Social (Saturday, November 8, 2025), he said:
"I am recommending to Senate Republicans that the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars currently being sent to money sucking Insurance Companies in order to save the bad Healthcare provided by ObamaCare, BE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE SO THAT THEY CAN PURCHASE THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER, HEALTHCARE, and have money left over.
In other words, take from the BIG, BAD Insurance Companies, give it to the people, and terminate, per Dollar spent, the worst Healthcare anywhere in the World, ObamaCare,"
The problem with giving the money directly to the people is that there is no way of knowing in advance how much money each person will need to pay for health care over a given period of time. Some people will “have money left over”, while others may fall well short of being able to pay for the health care they need.
President Trump is absolutely correct in identifying “money sucking Insurance Companies” (and “BIG BAD Insurance Companies”) as the reason we have “per Dollar spent, the worst Healthcare anywhere in the World.” One small change will significantly improve the alternative he is proposing. Instead of paying “the people” directly, we need to pay healthcare providers directly.
This is the message President Trump needs to send to Congress:
"I am recommending to members of Congress that the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars currently being sent to money sucking Insurance Companies in order to save the bad Healthcare provided by ObamaCare, BE SENT DIRECTLY TO HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS FOR SERVICES RENDERED, WITH REIMBURSEMENT AT THE RATES PROVIDED FOR UNDER MEDICARE, SO THAT PEOPLE WHO NEED HEALTHCARE CAN SIMPLY SEE THE HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS THEY NEED TO SEE.
In other words, take from the BIG, BAD Insurance Companies, give it to healthcare providers, and terminate, per Dollar spent, the worst Healthcare anywhere in the World, ObamaCare."
The legislation that would accomplish this objective has already been introduced in the U. S. Senate by Senator Bernie Sanders. It already has 15 cosponsors. (None of them Republicans.) Similar legislation in the U. S. House of Representatives has over a hundred cosponsors. (None of them Republicans.) President Trump is demonstrating daily that he has made himself the most powerful president in history, in large part because he has nearly absolute control over Republicans in Congress and Republicans are in the majority in both houses of Congress.
Private health insurance companies add significantly to the cost of healthcare without adding anything in terms of the quality or quantity of care provided. President Trump is the first president to clearly identify health insurance companies as the problem. If he will simply instruct Republicans in Congress to join the Democrats and independents who are already cosponsoring healthcare reform, he can accomplish what no president before him has been able to accomplish – he can secure and protect the right to healthcare for all the people of the United States.
