Lyrics

OUT OF THE DARKNESS
(Lyrics and music by Winston Apple)

Somewhere east of Eden, asphalt jungles are on fire
TV preachers fleece the faithful while preaching to the choir
Forbidden fruits are roasting on the flames of our desires
Some junkies blame the monkey when they can’t get any higher

Out of the darkness comes a shimmering Light
And if those of us who have seen it, will stand up for what is right
Oh, what a glorious day we’re gonna see
When we live up to our ideals and fulfill our destiny

Though we may be facing dangers, many yet unknown
Walking through a dark and desolate valley, where the Light has seldom shown
Let’s join hands and rejoice, for we do not walk alone
Out of these mountains of despair let’s hew a stone of hope

Out of the darkness comes a shimmering Light
And if those of us who have seen it, will stand up for what is right
Oh, what a glorious day we’re gonna see
When we live up to our ideals and fulfill our destiny

I have a dream, much like Doctor King
I see this land that I love becoming all that it can be
A joyous daybreak awaits us once we learn
To stand together on the solid rock of brotherhood

What rough beast, its hour come ‘round at last
Has deceived you into thinking that our glory days have passed?
The best is yet to come, if we learn from our mistakes
When we live up to our ideals, they will light the way

Out of the darkness comes a shimmering Light
And if those of us who have seen it, will stand up for what is right
Oh, what a glorious day we’re gonna see
When we live up to our ideals and fulfill our destiny
