He started out young playing video games
From a shooter’s perspective he took aim
Hour after hour and day after day
Johnny pretended to kill and maim

He went to the movies and he watched TV
Surely, he’s not affected by the things he sees
He’d get a little excited watching bullets fly
In just an hour or two he’d watch hundreds die
Maybe what we do and what you see
Affects who we turn out to be

He never cared for books
He never cared for school
And he never learned the Golden Rule
And then a couple years shy of twenty-one
Johnny went out and bought himself a gun

He was just nineteen
