Lyrics

THIS AINT THE WAY ITS SUPPOSED TO BE
(Lyrics & music by Winston Apple)

We’ve had millions of workers out of work for years now
And there’s lots of work to do
We’ve got homeless families and houses sitting empty
Can’t seem to match up the two
Well, it doesn’t take a lot of brain power or a PhD
To take a look around and to figure out
This ain’t the way it’s supposed to be

Well, Uncle Sam loves the corporations
Gives ‘em preferential treatment
A lot of subsidies
And he’s got a lot of generous tax breaks for all of the hedge fund managers he meets
But when Greed shut down our factories and sent our good jobs overseas
Uncle Sam just stood there watching
He didn’t even seem displeased
It ain’t hard to see which side he’s on
This ain’t the way it’s supposed to be

Well, there’s just two sides to choose from
The people’s or the greedy
You can sit back if you choose to, but all my friends and me
Are gonna wake up, wise up, rise up, keep on voting ‘til the job gets done
I don’t know about you, but as for me, I’ve had enough
With all my heart I have come to believe
This ain’t the way it’s supposed to be

Well, all you fine young people deserve a better deal than the one you’re about to get
You went off to school and you learned a trade
Now you graduate - find yourself buried deep in debt
Well, they gave you a diploma
And they gave you some degrees
And there’s work to do, but no job for you
This ain’t the way it’s supposed to be
The cost of health care spiraling out of reach
This ain’t the way it’s supposed to be
The NSA keeping tabs on you and me
This ain’t the way it’s supposed to be
