Lyrics

I CAN RESIST ANYTHING EXCEPT TEMPTATION
(Lyrics and music by Winston Apple)

When I was in my teens and as a young man
I was painfully aware there was a Beasty Boy living in my pants
He nearly drove me crazy with his constant demands
He was never truly satisfied ‘til things got out of hand
I didn’t understand his role in God’s clever plan for procreation
I can resist anything except temptation

I came of age during the Summer of Love
And that same summer our nation got hooked on drugs
At first I wasn’t tempted
I just said “No” for a long time
Then I met a sweet and lovely girl who was always getting high
Her second-hand smoke mixed with desire and excitation
I can resist anything except temptation

I can resist anything except temptation
Fortunately for me I’m not tempted by all that much anymore
Those cruel taskmasters no longer hold sway over me
(I am free) I am very nearly free of temptation

I got an first Elvis Presley record when I was five years old
And I got hooked on music
Mostly R&B and rock and roll
I learned to sing and play
I wrote some songs of my own
Creativity unleashed the greatest passions I have known
I am happily addicted to those powerful sensations
I can resist anything except temptation

I can resist anything except temptation
Fortunately for me I’m not tempted by all that much anymore
I am mostly tempted to indulge my creativity
I am very nearly free of temptation
I can resist anything except temptation
So don’t tempt me
